Further develop your skills
Now that you know the role of a crew member and have some experience on the helm the Start Skippering course focuses on the decision making process for a person in charge….the Skipper. This course will help to advance your sailing skills and safety knowledge to enable you to skipper unsupervised in sheltered waters. Our experienced instructors will assist you on the road to determining good decisions from potentially bad ones and the thought process behind making decisions. We also focus on how to work with your crew to manipulate the boat to get it to do what you want it to do. Throughout the course we will cover a number of topics such as assessing risks on board. boat maintenance, actions in emergency, sailing backwards, mooring, interpreting weather and environmental conditions.
We will provide life jackets, don’t forget to bring sun safe clothing, sun cream, wear non marking shoes and take a bottle of water.
What you need to know
Duration of the course – 12 hours (spread over four 3 hour sessions)
What you need to bring – quick dry clothing, sun protection, hat and shoes to sail in
What age groups? – from 18 years of age upwards
