Learn to Crew

IYT International Crew Certificate

  • Become a confident and effective crew member

  • Includes marine safety, anchoring and mooring, wind awareness, terminology, knots

  • Online study plus practical element

  • Typically includes one day on catamaran

  • Suitable for those with some basic sailing experience. If you’re a complete beginner, complete our Australian Sailing course first, or choose a learn-to-sail holiday.

Learn to Skipper

IYT Bareboat Skipper

  • For experienced sailors looking for a certification allowing them to charter a yacht

  • All knowledge needed to cruise inshore or close offshore

  • Online study plus practical element

  • Includes one day on a catamaran

  • Qualifies for an International Certificate of Competence upon completion of all steps

Length: 4 days including one night sail (4 consecutive days or 2 x weekends)

Catamaran training

Looking to charter a catamaran for your sailing holiday? Need to gain handling experience on this popular vessel type?

We are now offering IYT training on Celesta, our 35ft Seawind 1000XL.

  • One day on Celesta is included on our Bareboat Skipper courses. You may choose Bareboat Skipper (Monohull OR Catamaran) certificate or, if the instructor approves you can request both at an additional cost of $130.

  • One-off days on Celesta can be organised, to give you catamaran experience ahead of your charter or purchase

Sailing Holidays

Choose a one- or two-week sailing holiday, and fast-track your progression toward chartering your own yacht! Our skipper courses include your radio licence, as well as a day on our catamaran Celesta, giving you experience on these popular vessels as well as qualifying you for the catamaran-specific International Yacht Training certificates.

Crew Course Sailing Holiday

IYT International Crew Certificate

  • Complete course, suitable for absolute beginners

  • Runs Tuesday-Sunday (6 days). Option for live-aboard

  • 2 days on keelboats, 4 days on Solace including one night sail

  • Free twilight yacht race included

Skipper Course Sailing Holiday

IYT Bareboat Skipper Sail + IYT Bareboat Skipper Sail Catamaran

  • Complete course, suitable for sailors certified to IYT Crew level or equivalent. Qualifies for an ICC card.

  • 3 days on Solace, one day on Celesta plus one night sail

  • 2x free twilight yacht races included to build sea time

  • Marine Radio course included

Frequently Asked Questions

In order to receive the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), you must:

  • Attain your IYT Bareboat Skipper certificate:
    • Successful complete IYT Bareboat Skipper course (theory and practical)
    • Successful complete a Marine Radio course (can do in person or online)
      • Pay your $89 VHF Licence Fee (directly to the Office of Maritime Communications)
  • Apply directly to IYT for your ICC
    • Pay the $130 fee charged by IYT for an issue of the ICC certificate.

International Crew Certificate – 14 years of age

Bareboat Skipper – 18 years of age

If you have a group of friends or family looking for private lessons in yachting, please contact us for private rates.

We can organise sessions where all participants are working toward the same IYT qualifiation, or different qualifications (ideal for family groups).

Welcome to the world of sailing!

If you’re only available on weekends, we suggest starting with an Australian Sailing Start Crewing course on the keelboats, then progressing to the International Crew Course.

If you have a week to spare, consider our learn-to-sail holiday, which includes two introductory days on the keelboats before four days on Solace.
